Transmission on 2001 v70xc
Transmission on 2001 v70xc
My transmission is slipping b/t 1st and 2nd and again at 2nd and 3rd. I live in Durham NC and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to a good repair shop. Or other alternatives than a new tranny.

Welcome to MVS.
Most common problem is dirty transmission fluid and/or low level of fluid. If you have tons of miles and it looks dirty, drain what you can and add the same amount back through the dipstick tube (under your turbo pipe at the front of the car- driver's side- you'll need a long funnel). You car uses a special Mobil-3309 fluid. It is also the same as Toyota Type IV for Aisin-Warner transmissions (ask the Toyota dealer about it- much cheaper than buying the repackaged, same stuff from the Volvo dealer). Try that first and see if there's an improvement. Fluid level should be checked after running for at least 20 minutes and after shifting through all of your gears with your foot on the brake for at least 10- seconds in each gear...check it in park with the engine still running- should show on the hot side of the dip stick. If replacing this much fluid doesn't do anything the it certainly could be your transmission or your transmission solenoids. This is not something that any shop can do so check around for a reputable shop. That all said, the '01's were most prone to transmission issues over any other year. I hope you get things working right again.
