I checked for codes this evening using the instructions on the site. All I got was a 1-1-1 from A2 and a 1-2-2 from B2. Can someone tell me how to find out what a 1-2-2 is from B2? Is there somewhere on this site that lists all of these?

I looked in the driver's footwell and pulled any relay that wasn't clearly marked, still no luck. I however think your advice is sound Moose, I just need to figure out where this relay is that is fed directly from the 30 Amp fuse....

Found this post from another Guest whos fan was stuck on HIGH and he had to remove the fuse to cut it off. Here was his fix to the problem:

Problem was the fan resistor shorted.....Volvo couldn't make it any harder to replace this part as it's buried behind the dash and one needs to remove half the car to replace.

Thanks for the info! Do you think the resistor pack is the same as what he is referring to? I know where that is located and will be simple to replace compared to pulling the fan out.

 So I replaced the resistor pack and the fan is still coming on by it's self. Can anyone offer any more help? Is there a resistor for the fan as well; I have read others saying they replaced the resistor for the fan.

Well I will take it to the dealer I guess and see what they say the problem is.
Begin rant-This is the kind of thing that seriously makes me start to have doubts about a car....I hate electrical gremlins and this car is starting have plenty of them: PNP switch probably needs to be replaced, check engline light is on after episdode with tranny acting wierd (see PNP switch), coolant level light is on for no reason, ABS/Trac lights come on, service light is on, and this stinking fan problem, not to mention that it smokes after I get on the Turbo heavily....grr....-end rant. :x

I know this is a 11 year old car, but it still bums me out.

It's fixed. Volvo dealer stated it was the power stage, replaced it and all is working well.

Cost was $140 for the part plus 1 hour labor @ $98.

Could have been much worse I suppose (ECC @ $700).

I still need to track down the other issues with the car, however the most irritating one is fixed and I know this BB will help me with much of the other stuff. I appreciate your guy's help with this, I at least feel like I tried my best before having to take it to a mechanic.

I have a 1997 Volvo with the exact same problem, I have just checked the web the fan does have a fan blower resistor I am thinking this might be it.
