V70, 98, 2.5 occasionally misfires at idle

Post by yvesyvesb »

Hi,

The engine feels like it misfires at idle and only at idle. NEVER during normal driving. It feels like one cylinder misses once in a while. The misfire is occasional and unafected by outside temperature. (I live in a part of the word where is go up to 30C in the summer and -35C in the winter).

Maintenance was carried out as recommended and with Volvo parts. (plugs, filters, trottle body maintenance, PVC, etc). Consumption is normal.

I have not complained to the dealer because I am afraid of the cost of troubleshooting a problem that happens occasionally ...and one I have been living with for the last 2 years.

I suspect the injection or the ignition ...but I can't figure why this occurs only at idle.

Hey, I reccomend taking a loot at the Haynes manual and looking in the back cover. Pull your plugs and check them against what the pictures look like. It was a very valuable guide in figuring out a misifiring problem I had in a Mazda. Also, take the resistance of your wires and make sure it is super low. I would think it was the plugs though, if everything else is good.

Just a non-professional's opinion! Good luck!
