V70 t5
Do you think a chip and flow will cause problems with the ECU's diagnostics?

I guess you mean a chipped ECU and better flowing exhaust?
If so, then no, as long as it's done right and your air to fuel ratio is kept in check. Get tuning done only by a reputable place. IPD (www.ipdusa.com) comes to mind when thinking of what you've posted.

Yea, what I mean is that if you put a plug and play chip on your ecu and put a free flow exaust, gas flow the head and boost the turbo higher, wil there be any problems with your ECU to cope with all the mods. The reason I ask is that I heard that some cars ECU's over compensate with all the excess power and make the car actually almost undriveable. Meaning that it wont be worth your while to do the mods.

My understanding of chip upgrades is that they replace the programming (for fuel/air mix, boost, etc.) of the ECU.
In other words, the ECU becomes a zombie, unable to manage engine functions, but still able to complete other tasks like tripping Check Engine light, while the new programming manages the engine.
I'll ask someone at IPD today and get back to this thread.

Thanks, yea the ECU handles all the other functions but the engin functions, but that is what worrys me... it handles the traction controll stability control and abs.... all that could create potential problems if more power is set to the wheels.

If implemented properly an ECU upgrade should be seamless except fo the additional power. To help gain some further understanding of the Ipd process check out this vid...
And of course, don't hesistate to ask if you have anymore questions!

The problem is, I'm sitting in South Africa and there seems to be very little people that knows what they doing on Volvo's especially when it comes to mods. Any reccomendations?
