hello guys,

i have changed my oil today first time and saw that there is some leakage on my transmission pan. what do you think causes this? I was planning to change the transmission fluid so will be putting a new seal gasget, would that stop this leakage?

It should. Your new filter should come with a new gasket.

hello vega,
i am planning to do this soon. I also found another write up for this process on other forum and am pasting below. He is flushing the fluid after replacing the filter and fluid in the amount of what came out. Do you think this is a better way to do it? the only thing i didn't understand where the 8liters of fluid is stored during the drain...

Transmission Filter - 29$ Volvo Dealer
Gasket can be reused once.
Oil - Castrol ATF Dexron III. 15 Litres - 67$ Wal-Mart
2x yellow O-rings for hose 10$ Volvo Dealer
New Green Clip for the hose 8$ Volvo Dealer
Vinyl Tube 9/16 4 foot long Home Depot
Teflon Tape 0.75$ Home Depot

The Procedure: about 2.5 hours.

First loosen the pan on one side and drain the oil.
You will drain approximately 7 Lires only half of the total capacity.
Once the oil stops leaking drop the pan completely.
Pry out the filter with flat screwdriver.
Clean the pan and the gasket with Carburator cleaner.
Ther is a magnet in the pan which had a thick layer of gunk on it.
Install the new filter.
Reattach the pan and tighten all 20 bolts gradually.
Now meassure the drained oil and refill the same capacity with fresh oil through the tranny dipstick.
I have used 1 gallon milk jags to collect and meassure the oil.
Next step is to flush (exchange) the remaining 8 litres of new oil.
Pull out the tranny coller hose from radiator and insert that vinyl tube in the upper radiator outlet wraped with teflon tape for better seal.
Next two people needed: Start the engine and the fluid will flow out into the container, stop the engine when you reach 4 litre mark.
Fill 4 litres of fresh oil through the dipstick.
Repeat once more for the last 4 litres.
That should be enough to see fresh red fluid on you dipstick.
Reinsert the hose into the radiator with new O-rings and a clip. (changing the clip is unnecessary)
Drive the car for at least 15 minutes and check the level, top up if needed.

Now I have clean fresh red oil on my dipstick.

Some people would say that is a better method.

The other 8 liters are up in the innards of the transmission and in the torque converter and don't get drained out when you drop the pan.
