hi, i just purchased a volvo 960 1997 and was wondering where i can jack it up on using floor jacks and stands? is the front/ rear diff and housing solid enough?
on another note, anyone know where i can get my hands on some shop manuals? past experience with other cars, i'm not a fan of chiltons or hayes.
thanks
floor jack and jack stands

for the manuals you might try sending George Dill an email: [email protected] He could probably help you with the jacking points as well as I have no idea. Btw, is it a wagon or a sedan...might be in your owner's manual.

Sorry, I missed this one last night.
You can raise both rear wheels by jacking under the diff but use a block of wood between the jack and the housing.
To raise both front wheels remove the engine undertray and place the jack under the centre of the front crossmember.
To raise individual wheels place the jack under the appropriate jacking point near the wheel in question.
Axle stands may be placed under the jacking points, the front crossmember or the rear axle tube if there is one. N.B. never use four axle stands under the jacking points as the vehicle could become nose heavy.
An alternative to jacks and axle stands is to use ramps, if the wheels are not to come off.
Whichever way you go ensure the equipment is sufficiently rated to take the weight of the vehicle.
Bill.

It is not a hard job on the 960. Remember to slacken off the adjustment on the parking brake cable to help get the rotor (disc) off.

How do you remove the center console on the S90 to get to the parking brake adjustment on the cable?billofdurham wrote:It is not a hard job on the 960. Remember to slacken off the adjustment on the parking brake cable to help get the rotor (disc) off.

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.
You don't need to remove the centre console only the rear ashtray and its holder:
Bill.
