Question about boost gauge

Post by my850isbeat »

In my 97 850 the gauges (instrument panel) were obviously replaced. I had the dISC on the dash and no select reset panel on the dash. I have corrected that. Thing is the boost gauge is dead. I thought I read somewhere that it was vacuum operated, but after having it out, that doesnt seem to be the case. The 97 850 turbo wagon I have been scavenging off of (at the salvage) didnt have the boost gauge in the dash, so I guess the question is, is this dash (my current dash) out of wrong year, and is there a way to make this work? I think I'm victim of ODO rollback via gauge swap. :?

For $50 you can add your own gauge that's accurate and run a line to it from the vacuum tree...probably all that's wrong with yours is that the plastic line on the back of your cluster has slipped off of the boost gauge. All should work if it's hooked up right even if it's off of another 850 (even wrong year).

Thanks MIJ. I just didnt see a place for the vacuum line to connect to, so I thought it was electric somehow, and there may be a sensor that sent electric signal to the gauge. I had the dash out to replace some bulbs, so I had a pretty good look at it. I may look for an aftermarket gauge, or get the instrument cluster I saw at the salvage yard if I cant fix this one. I did manage to get all the warning lights off thanks to some tips on here. Service, ABS, TRAC, and Check Engine were all on, so I am pretty happy with how far the car has come so far.

Yeah, the factory gauge has a small hose running to it. If it's off or broken between the vacuum tree and the cluster that means you have an open hose somewhere. Look for it as you're sucking in air and your turbo's boost as well as air/fuel mixture will be effected.
