Passenger Side Mirror Broken

Post by jborchel »

My passenger mirror will adjust up and down but not left and right. How do I get into the housing to repair it or to replace it? I can move it left or right by hand as it seems to have come off the gears or whatever controls it.

If you have a bone tool that is best but a dull flat knife will do. First of all, you want to turn your mirror all the way in...Even if the motor doesn't work, you can get someone to help push it with the motor engaged. Then get a finger behind the glass and just pull out. I know you'll feel that the glass will break but it won't...just go slow. Once the glass is out, you'll see how the casing (or mirror cover) is...you pry it off with the dull/flat item...it has plastic catches you have to release. Once you have this off, the motor is visible. You can try to see what's up with it, but you may be in for a replacement. These are expensive new so you might want to contact (call them- they are horrible with email) www.erievovo.com or look on eBay.

Before I pull it out I wanted to check. The problem seems like a faulty or loss set of gear teeth or something similar. Would this be part of the motor so that the only solution is replacing the motor?

I believe so...I've never heard of just a gear replacement (never seen it posted)...but if you find a good donor motor from a scrap yard and want to document that for us, we'll put it up in our repair database. Good luck to you and let us know how it goes.
