air conditioning growl
I have a 2000 (from 2001 in US) V70 T5. The air conditioning gives a long growl each time the car is started as the a/c compressor is kaput. The noise stops when the a/c clutch declutches after a few seconds. I don't need the a/c, so to solve this I want to omit the a/c compressor from the serpentine belt drive circuit. Does anyone know if I can just fit the shorter belt that would be fitted to a non-a/c model and remove the a/c compressor, or else leave it in situ but not fit the belt around it? Would this cause the alternator to run the wrong way; would this matter? Where can I get a diagram that shows the correct fitting of the serpentine belt for a/c and non-a/c cars???

Wouldn't it be easier to just cut the AC clutch wire?
