Vibration when curving left
Vibration when curving left
I have a 2002 S60 92,000miles. When taking a curve to the left when I excelerate coming out of the curve I feel a strong vibration coming from the front right. any idea what could be causing this? I don't think this is related but the front right brake caliper is rattling like crazy. I have ordered my 7mm hex rench to try and fix this.

I think you posted on the wrong forum, but.....
Bad bearings will vibrate or rythmically hum after you get up to speed. If it gets louder when you curve left, then the bad bearing is on the right. If it gets louder when you curve right, the bad bearing is on the left.
I have never had a bad CV joint, but I have read that an inner cv joint will make noise primarily under acceleration.

ive got a V70 and ive had the same problem on turning right it was the left front wheel bearing
I have now replaced the bearing and hub assembly. This did not fix the problem and it may be getting worst. I am thinking about replacing the drive axle now. Is it possible to replace the bearing on the axle. I am thinking that that may be where the problem is.
HI Guys, had the same problem with a 2001 V70, after a lot of investigation work, we found the problem. My vibration / thundering occured on the front left wheel when turning left but not right. Turns out it was the driveshaft feeding the right hand wheel, so after biting the bullet I replaced the item (swap out with Volvo) and it cured the problem. didnt cure the worn shock, wheel rub in arches or the discs cutting into the lower arms but thats another post! Dont know for sure thatis your problem but worth investigation.

I had a similar experiance at 93k miles and it was the right drive axle that turned out to be bad. It did not have a lot of play so it was difficult to diagnose correctly. I replaced them both anyways, and problem solved. Note at this milage you may also check the upper engine mount mine went bad as well don't know if it was vibration from bad axle related.

I'm also experiencing the 'vibration when curving left' however, this only happens as I'm accelerating (2001 V70 XC). I will add the car was purchased with a blown front differential (unknowingly) but was told the car was fine to drive with just RWD. Since I only experience the vibration as I'm accelerating (coasting or going downhill while turning is smooth), I'm a bit suspicious of something in the drivetrain. I will also add, I'm not necessarily mechanically minded. So, any thoughts?

The reason you get vibration when accelerating is because that is exactly when you are loading the axle with torque. If there is any play in the joint it will produce vibration. That is what happened to our s60 and it is difficult to diagnose assembled since there was hardly any play at all when I removed it. I would have hesitated in replacing the axle but the outer boot was torn anyways so I went and bought a remanufactured axle for $125 with exchange. Worked for me.schuyler_mason wrote:I'm also experiencing the 'vibration when curving left' however, this only happens as I'm accelerating (2001 V70 XC).
