Sat Nav keeps trying to reboot and cuts out

Since the weekend our navigation system attempts to start up and then resets and goes into a loop where it cuts the radio and tries to keep staring up without ever working. If I remove the navigation disc, a message comes up that insert disc. The cut out then goes away. Any ideas? The dealer quoted me £1200 to get it fixed!!!

I see London!! I see France!! Does the screen come out of the dash ok? Things might be different over here but there is a firmware type upgrade disc for Nav systems. 1200 pounds? Thats like 20 thousand doll-hairs over here.
