760GLE 1988 Window Oddity

Post by DeRail »

I saw cncgal's post on power windows and figured now's a good time to ask about my own windows. It's only the drivers side front window. The motor works fine and will push the window back up, but it doesn't line up evenly (if I roll up the window I can hear whistling toward the back of the window and pushing toward the back of the window closes up that gap and the noise disappears) Also when I roll the window down, instead of going down with what I'm assuming is the regulator, the regulator will go down and the window will kind of slide down into place. I haven't taken the door apart because I didn't want to open up a can of worms and I wasn't sure the difficulty... but since I'm doing other repairs to the car within the week, I figured what the heck, why not see if I can fix this :)

Thank you
Darrell

Sounds like the glass has come out of the rail or one of the ferrules is broken. Here's a parts diagram:

Thanks for the diagram, vegas.

Do you happen to have the instructions for removing the door panel?

Thank you,
Darrell

Unfortunately my VADIS is rather sparse on info for your car so I don't have specific directions. Here's a parts diagram. It looks to me like it's the typical remove some screws, pop the clips out around the perimeter of the panel, then lift the panel upward to disengage it from the top of the door.

Thanks again :)

I hopefully should be able to devote a weekend to messing around with the car once my ignition parts come in the mail.

Fixed this issue around the fourth of July. I took the door panel off and the repair situation looked grim as it looked as though everything was in order. However as I operated the window up and down, where the regulator bolts to the outer steel, I could see that the bolts were nearly coming off! I torqued one of them down and the other was easy to pinpoint.. I didn't have any loctite or else I would have put some of that on the threads just to keep them from coming loose but once I torqued them down really well, it worked like charm! It's great to have a fully functional driver window for the first time in this car, especially since I didn't fix my AC this year.

I was a bit apprehensive at first but it just goes to show you, sometimes you have to jump right in and figure out what exactly is causing the problem and find a way to fix it.

Cheers!
Darrell
