Difference between the S60 and S80?

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Difference between the S60 and S80?

Post by robocam »

Other than size, what's the difference between the S60 and S80? I looked up the weight of the two and was surprised to find the S60 weighing more than the S80!

I guess the S60 has the option of getting a manual transmission. And I really like the LED brake lights on my 05 S80, but what makes an S80 different?

I was at the Volvo dealer the other day and looked at an 09 S60 and it looked very much like my S80.

The S60 is supposed to be a sports sedan while the S80 is supposed to be a luxury car.

The S80 has in most cases a bigger engine, different transmission (a negative for those models with the GM tranny), and at least some rear legroom (try sitting in the back seat of an S60 with the front seats moved all the way back). I believe it also has more rear headroom.

The S80 is a wider car, which may help in a side-impact crash because it will leave you more "survivability room" after the side of the car is crushed in. This also gives your passengers more room.

If you mostly drive by yourself, you might want to consider an S60. If you frequently haul passengers, the S80 may be more suited to your needs.
