940 Estate 1997 - Replace front & rear suspensions

Post by Metallo »

Hi there!

My 940 has 152.000 Km and needs replacing both rear and front suspensions.
It is something I could probably do myself, but have no time to do it, therefore I asked a cost estimate to my Volvo dealer, here it is:

Front kit P/N 274215: 316,80 € (2 parts)
Rear P/N 1329500: 212.40 € (2 parts)
Labour cost: 136,08 €
Total: 665.28 (VAT included)

The dealer said if I do the work during May, I will get 20% discount on the costs of the absorbers, so I should end up to something like 550.00 €
Now, I wanted to know your opinion on the above mentioned costs.

Perhaps another possibility would be to buy new absorbers at a car parts store and get them mounted at a garage, I guess it would save me at least an extra 35%.
Should I decide to go this way, I have two questions:

Are the OEM absorbers produced by Boge? If yes, should I go for the same brand?
Is there anything better than the OEM?

Thank you for your advise :)

Cheers
