New 2000 v40 owner need some help.

Just purchased a 2000 v40,with 118,000 miles. Looks a year old and was dealership maintained up 90K. I'd really like to get her up to 200K. It has a few issues. Front end shudders on excelleration, drive axles? Rotors are terrible. And sometimes it will drop out of gear,but otherwise the transmission is great and is stong,shifts smoothly.
The first thing is I need a manual and cant find anything, I'm the kind of person that needs a book. Second,how can I ID my trans, the car has the 1.9 T. Thirdly,does anybody have any ideas on my intermetant transmission trouble. Regarding the trans.There doesnt seam to be any certant time,load no load,hot or cold, fluid level is dead on perfect and to me looks and smells good.

Thanks for the info on the vadis dvd.Can you help me to find the transmission type in my V40, I have some info on yhe engine but not on the trans. One other thing I need to know is about the diagnostic codes, will one of the autostore scan tools work for my 2000 v40? Any recomendations on a good scan tool that might work on my ford as well? I never used one,but have always want to have one.
