Hello, this is my first visit to your site. I already have a 1995 940, had a 1986 wagon before that. Now I'm looking at the XC90 2005, I love it, but can you please tell me what, if any troubles come with it. Escpecially with the Turbo, never had a turbo before, being a woman, I do not want to be "taken for a ride" if something goes wrong with it.
Sincerely and anxious to buy,
Margo
xc90 2005 Turbo
Hey Margo,
Welcome to the forum, first off I'm sure this post will be moved as it is in the XC70 section now, but in the mean time... The BIGGEST thing to worry about is buying a 05 T6 turbo, the transmissions have a ridiculously high failure rate. The 5 cyl turbo on the other hand should give you very little trouble, it is based on an engine that has been working for Volvo since 1993. Look for one that has been maintained (oil changes/filters/plugs etc.) and hopefully the oil changes have been with synthetic. Others may chime in but the T6 engine model is your biggest no-no.

Thank you for your response. I was looking at the 5 cy. So I guess I'm good. I've also had people (mechanics) say that Volvo's especially this one will be expensive if I need to buy parts. I've never had a problem with my older volvos.
Thank you again.
Margo
Thank you again.

It depends, if you do everything at a Volvo dealer it will cost you a fortune, if you find a good independent mechanic that specializes or has experience with Volvo's it won't be so bad. An independent will get the same Volvo parts for half the price and their service rate will be less. I would guess there are probably some good independents in NH that have a volvo background. I just did the 45K mile service my self, parts cost about $125 and took a few hours. same service at Volvo would have been between $500-$600, at an independent, probably $300-$350.Margo wrote:I've also had people (mechanics) say that Volvo's especially this one will be expensive if I need to buy parts.
