Adding rear sway bar.

How to go faster, stop quicker, and turn harder. Chips, exhaust, larger turbos, bigger/slotted/drilled rotors, high performance brake pads, manual boost controllers, performance shocks/struts/springs, airbox mods and more! Also discussion on HID and Xenon lights, aftermarket foglights and other exterior lighting.

Adding rear sway bar.

Post by sony2000 »

Last week I was under a scrap S80 so I bought the rear sway bar for my V70 non turbo, 2004. Since I expect to be undoing the knuckle anyway on the rear, the bar should easily slip into place. Expecting an improvement in cornering, but can I also expect the rear of the wagon to sit a little lower?

It won't sit any lower- btw, are you sure the S80 rear sway fits on the V70? You know that either way, you'll need rear end links.

My research on non AWD Volvos (the P model) is that all sway bars are the same. The only difference is that they come in three thicknesses. My hole-in-the-wall parts store, had Feibi links (German) in stock. Another parts store that imports European aftermarket parts is on my blacklist, ever since they gave me the super ego attitude, and refused to sell me only one brake disk. "They are sold in pairs"....BS.

The sway bar is in, and the rear end is less sloppy. The car had a Chevy ride and now its rides like my old 855 with a smoother suspension for the potholes. More travel to the shocks. The links come to within 1/8" of the coil bottom support bracket. I also discovered my metal rod supporting the exhaust pipe had rusted through. The muffler is an odd shape and size. It would be hard to replace it with Thrush or "Hollywood", if you know what I mean.

Great news- glad it worked out for you.
I hand carried our rear bar to Tokyo several years ago for a friend who wanted it on his V70...we had upgraded to IPD all the way around and had no need for it. He also said it made a world of difference and was surprised that Volvo would allow wagons on the road without one (a safety issue?).

Well, that's good news for your V70, what about your 760 T- I've got '89 760 T IRS sedan and a '90 760T wagon IPD all the way, also 2001 V702.4t, I am happy with the V70 2.4t, but when I drive my other 760 IPD, I get easily inspired, and I actually love it so much, that I am on the look out for rear sway bars for my 760 IRS sedan, like from a 960, and then will upgrade to 25mm front, when the right time comes- get the IPD sway bars for the V70- actually I have been thinking to exchange it for a T5 at least or V70 R,
