spike spider

Post by MJJ »

After spending an hour wedging my hand behind the front tires, covered in ice and mud, trying to put on those #%$*! cable chains, I am ready to invest in spike-spider traction devices for my S70. The thing is, I also need new tires, and the spike-spiders have to be bought for a particular tire size. They are pricey so I don't want to buy them for my current 195/60R15's and then next week end up getting 205's. So I suppose I have 3 questions:

1. Has anyone used spike-spiders with their S70, and on what size tires?

2. What size tires have people used successfully? I see other posts saying 205/50's will work. Is that a more common size than 195/60?

3. For whichever size you suggest, do you think there would be room for the spike-spider? There is not a lot of space in that wheel well and although a little wheel rub might not be the greatest calamity, I imagine a tire chain grinding against the wheel well would do some damage.

Thanks!
