air filter

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

air filter

Post by cjeancass »

I got my air filter replaced in my volvo S80 and now the gas mileage is horrible. I took it back and they said they put in the wrong air filter, it didn't fit well and (so I think) they changed it. However problem still exsists..Should I go to a volvo dealer? Would this problem cause such significant changes in gas mileage?

They probably damaged something (like the MAF sensor or connector) when they changed the filter.

Yes, I'd take it to a Volvo dealer or independent Volvo shop to have it diagnosed. Where did you get the air filter changed?

Thanks for getting back so fast..I took it to an oil change place, they do car washes, etc. Just basic stuff..
Which air filter do you recommend? (I wish I had my old one back, there was nothing wrong with it..I was being proactive)

You should be able to get a Purolator or Fram at a local auto parts store, or you can get genuine Volvo from your local dealer or from several online sources. I just put Purolators in my car.

Some other people on this forum will recommend K&N but I believe they let too much dust into the engine, so I don't use them.
