Radio code not turning radio on

So, I am positive that I have the correct code for the radio (its written on the top of the unit). When I enter that code nothing happens, the display simply shows the correct code. An incorrect code yields the EEEE as it should.

Are there any ideas about how to fix this problem (or even how this problem could even be caused)? I looked through the fuse box and to the best of my knowledge (which is limited) it all looked okay.

What is your car year make/model? I have a 2001 s40 and the code is 5151. I doubt that will work for you. If you google around you might be able to find your code for your make/model. You can also call the dealer (that's what I did years back). They didn't charge me over the phone (shocker!)

Oh, sorry. Its a 1997 850. These codes are specific; there is a randomly assigned code to each radio.

I have the correct code for the radio (and I am positive that its correct because it doesn't spit out the error message when I put it in). However, it doesn't turn on the radio. The radio just displays the correct code instead of becoming usable like it should.

Still, after tinkering with the radio, nothing.

Random: I found a link on this forum about wiring a line in. While completely unrelated to my problem, its something that I've been looking to do. I'm pretty excited, now I am REALLY determined to get this radio to work.

It's not unheard of; my 1994 850 (that I bought used a year or so ago) has a newer Volvo radio in it. The records from the original owner show they bought the new radio because the original radio would not take the code - even the dealer wasn't able to make it work. At the time, the new radio then was about $1000.00, which is almost half of what I eventually paid for the car.
