Remote Programming

Post by Guest »

I am sure this topic has been covered before, does anyone out there have the instructions for programming a remote keyless entry unit for a 96 850? Also, it is my understanding that there are 2 different remotes for the 850's. Please correct me if I am wrong but one of them is for 93 - early 96 and the other is for late 96-97. Does anyone have a date cutoff for this change? The build date for my 96 is 08/95 so it is certainly as early 96 as you can get. Is the early remote the one with the side by side buttons and the late remote the one with the over-under buttons? Thanks a bunch!!

I have researched this matter for several weeks and here is what I have heard from several sources about the way to program the remote:

With all doors shut, place the key in the ignition and turn it to the "start" and back to the "off" position 5 times within 10 seconds. Leave it in the "start" position on the 5th time. Then push one of the buttons on the remote.
This should program the remote to your car. I'm not sure about the newer remote as my 1995 uses the remote with the side by side buttons. Also, I bought a remote on ebay that was a dud so this process didn't work for me. I am in the process of getting a different one sent to me, so let me know if this works for you.

The instructions given in the last post are correct & the remote with the buttons at front & back (Not side to side) on a 96 850 are the GA11 alarms.

Please feel free to mail me & I will be happy to scan the alarm instruction out of my manual & mail them to you.
