Struts vs Springs

How to go faster, stop quicker, and turn harder. Chips, exhaust, larger turbos, bigger/slotted/drilled rotors, high performance brake pads, manual boost controllers, performance shocks/struts/springs, airbox mods and more! Also discussion on HID and Xenon lights, aftermarket foglights and other exterior lighting.

Struts vs Springs

Post by eyeballumbrella »

I have a 98 s70 N/A and I have heard that the best way to get performance out of it (besides a stage-0) is to upgrade the suspension/handling. I was wondering is it better to install new struts or shocks (which is better)? or do I have to install both?

Thanks

It really isn't an either / or proposition. You have struts on the front and shocks on the back.

The OEM springs really don't wear out but you can improve the handling (at the cost of the ride) with aftermarket springs like K&R or you can lower the car via the springs.

I stick with OEM springs and just change the shocks and struts to the Bilstein touring class and I have been happy with the compromise. The handling is much better and the ride isn't that much worse.

Avoid the Bilstein HD package unless you are looking for pure performance as it is very rough riding.
