S60 2.4T 2001 - Craking noise in the fron when turning right

Post by Lukas718 »

Guys I need you help

I have a strange noise ( cracking ) coming out of the front left side when turning sharp right and accelerating. I don't know if that is related to the same issue but when I have my car parked and then I shift to drive and accelerate I can hear that loud click/crack sound coming from the front.
Moreover I noticed that when I'm driving up hill and I accelerate a little I feel like something is shifting in the front and when I hit brakes it does the same thing. It is only noticeable when car goes up hills ( or it's under certain elevation ).

so far from research on this forum I came out with few possible issues:
- lower torque mount
- upper torque mount
- wheel hub

any ideas what could that be ?

p.s I recently changed 3 engine mounts (front, back ,and right)

Check all of those things as well as the sway bar end link on that side that is making the noise. If one of the bushings is bad on it, it will swivel with added pressure and make the noise you describe.

I agree

Check the hubs and the CV joints. The sway bar end link you can check quickly before you drive. The upper strut mount may be the culprit as well. If you replaced 3 motor mounts recently I think you are finding that the rubber elements of the car are ending their service life. The upper mount is rubber on the P2's.

Sounds like a bad ball joint (it's attached to the control arm or known also as the A-arm- the ball joint is attached to the end of it)...tires will wear funny if this is bad. You'll need to replace the entire arm if it's cracking where it's attached. Could also be outer tie rod end so check that as well.
