Can anyone tell me what the correct number for the fi ecu is on my car? It's a 90 740 GL non turbo. The number on the old unit is 0280 000 556. I cannot locate a replacement with this number. I have been on ebay and several online parts stores and even my local Volvo dealer cannot find one with this number.
Are there any other numbers that will work??
740GL 1990 -can't find correct ecu

VADIS lists several different part numbers.
What is your engine type?
What is the color code on the ecu you have?

3501687 is the part number. It has been superceded by part number 5003954.
You can get a new one here: http://www.tascafordparts.com/, but it's $723.

Thanks for the part number!
do you know if there are any computers from other 740's that will cross over? I'm finding several units (all from 740's in the 89-92 range) but the individual unit numbers don't match up to the one out of mine.
This would be extremely helpful.

Sorry, I don't have any more info. VADIS mostly lists the ECUs by the color code of the label. I only saw one reference to a 289 number. You might try calling Darrell Waltrip Volvo @ 1-800-689-0021 and ask for Jamie or Don. Tell them you're from Matthew's Volvo Site and ask them if they know of any crossover units. They offer a discount to MVS members and if you can't find a used unit, they can probably get you a better price on a new one.Ron Richison wrote:Thanks for the part number!

I know nothing about ECU part numbers much less RWD Volvo's (thus the lack of my posts in this section)...I feel inept, but to think through this logically, as long as the ECU is from the same model with the same features (turbo, or not, auto trans vs. manual, etc.), then I don't see why a different ECU with a different number would make a difference- these aren't like the more modern cars where the ECU is "married" to the car's network.

don't feel bad. My local Volvo dealership doesn't know either. They cannot find an ECU with the same number as mine.
I took it in for an idle problem. They said I had proper spark, fuel pressure, correct timing and 160 lbs of compression on all 4 cylinders. They told me I had one of two problems: ECU or MAF. Thanks to a friend with the same year/model, running Volvo, I put in his ECU, MAF sensor and factory wires. My car will not run. I put all my old parts on his car, it runs as well as it did with his original parts.
I've never given up on a car before, ever. What now!
Any advise on how to work with the dealership to get this thing fixed without pouring more money into it. (to date over $800)
very frustrated!

It's gotta be something else, then. Maybe fuel supply. Do you have good fuel pressure at the rail?
