All,
from recent posting, my volvo starts ok after new batter following low speed crash which airbags deployed.
My needs for the car are as follows:
Airbags, driver and passenger
Seatbelts, driver and passenger
front bumper, [really just lower valence]
1 10 spoke alloy rim and tire
front windshield
rear hatch inner panel
My question is this, I found a 1996 VOLVO TURBO WAGON parts car and am wondering how much of this I can expect to be useful on my 1995 940 "non turbo" wagon.. any ideas on what will work for me... additionally is rest of car of value too, or a waste of my time and effort to persue?
Happy New Year,
1995 940 wagon

Progress?
The airbags for the driver are the same part number on VADIS but the passenger side numbers are different.
Seatbelts part numbers are the same for both vehicles.
Bumper part numbers are the same.
Windscreens are the same.
Wheel?
Rear hatch inner panel is not listed in VADIS that I can see but the rear hatches are the same part numbers.
As for the rest, most of the parts are interchangeable but the big question is, "Do you need them?"
Bill.

OK, New windshield installed and I have most of the parts I need to put her back on the road.
My main question at this time relates to the "clockspring" which I never heard of. I have a new [used] steering wheel, driver airbag and clockspring assembly. Guy who gave it to me suggested I check with someone before trying to reinstall it as he is unsure if something special needs to be done for that clockspring thing to work properly... Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

I don't have directions for your 940, but here are some for the 960. Hopefully they will be similar enough that you will be able to figure it out. They call the "clockspring" a "contact reel." It's what transmits the power to and from the steering wheel while still allowing it to turn.trender wrote:OK, New windshield installed and I have most of the parts I need to put her back on the road.

It is slightly different for the 940:
It is imperative that the front wheels are straight ahead when replacing the steering wheel and that the steering wheel is put on the column straight. If you find the steering wheel needs adjustment to get it straight DO NOT turn it on the shaft. It must be removed from the shaft or you will shear off the contact reel pin. Once you are happy that the wheels are straight ahead and the steering wheel has been set straight route the cable from the contact reel through the hole in the steering wheel.
Install and finger tighten the steering wheel bolt.
Remove the screw locking the contact reel and install it in its parking hole in the steering wheel. Do not remove the screw from the plastic strip.
The contact reel is now unlocked and can be turned freely. Torque the steering wheel bolt to 33nm.
Bill.
