V70 1998 AWD [removed] in my opnion 'Beware"

Post by hunterbaye »

What an IDIOT I am- just had a 1998 V70 GLT AWD with 128K (and great carfax report-had all the regular scheduled maint. done at a Volvo Dealer )delivered to Tom Wood Volvo, Carmel, IN from [removed] IN Pralin, NJ to have a used car inspection. [removed] from [removed] seemed so sincere-
I paid $5200 and now here is the list of things [removed] Didn't tell me-
That Tom Wood Volvo did tell me-
FRont cup holder $109
Front Head lamp out $22
Right door lock $ 271
Left rear Window $230
Left CV boot $271
Rear Differential $1807
A/C Evaporator $1389.
No Remote for Keyless entry (ad stated Keyless entry) $150
I should have checked all the forms as They are not that well thought of.

Reason: Buyer and seller worked out the problem, seller's name removed at request of both parties.

Well, to be honest you really did screw that one up. Can you return it? They should have advertised all that stuff.

If you do want to keep the car though, you could fix and ignore some of those problems.

Front cup holder $109
- DIY or Ignore
Front Head lamp out $22 - DIY
Right door lock $ 271 - Ignore
Left rear Window $230 - Broken or doesn't move using the master switch? Ignore or DIY fix.
Left CV boot $271 - Need just a new boot? If so DIY.
Rear Differential $1807 - I think if you just remove the rear drive shaft, you won't have to deal with this. The car won't be AWD, but you'd probably have to shell out $2000 when the front differential goes out in a while.
A/C Evaporator $1389. - If it isn't a really bad leak, you can just keep refilling it with freon. If it is bad and you don't need it terribly, ignore. If you're feeling brave you can tear apart the whole dash yourself and do the replace the evaporatore for about $150. If not, you are looking at about that price for someone else to do it...
No Remote for Keyless entry (ad stated Keyless entry) $150 - I'd just live with it. But you should get in contact with the people you bought it from and DEMAND they give you one, and not to mention sort out all the other crap.

Don't all their cars come with 3 months warranty?

However, I'd return it.

There's no such thing as a non-returnable item.

I removed the name of the seller on request of the buyer after both parties came to a friendly conclusion.

This is the first and last revision I do of this kind. I had second thoughts about this revision after I conversed with the buyer, but I'm not going to go back on my word after I told him I'd do it.

Note that you cannot edit posts over a couple days old.

In the future, if you work a problem out with another party, I suggest posting to the topic explaining that you're happy and the matter is resolved.

My 2c on the innocent party identified, Tom Wood Volvo in Indianapolis, I bought my first 850 from them and they were stand up people. My salesman came in on his day off to accommodate my flight schedule.

I'm sure they are like most dealerships - expensive - but they treated me well when I purchased an eBay car from them - the '94 N/A.
