740 blower fan-loud squeeling

I have an '87 740 GLE. The heater/defrost fan works but makes a very loud squeeling sound. If anyone has advice I'd appreciate hearing it. I'm wondering how hard it is to get at the fan, and if it's a matter of lubrication or replacement.

Be happy that you are an owner of a 740, it is very simple! Take the top panel away in the right footwell. Under there you will see a round plastic cover. Disconnect the electrical plug. Loosen one screw. Twist the round cover around a half turn, and out is the fan. Simple as that! 15 minutes, maximum.
