Error Code PO 301

Post by justal »

Hello,
I have a 2001 S40 that will stall and died when come to a stop. The mechanic told me that it might due to some problems within as the new spark plugs when removed was black and had soot on it.

When scanned it had an error code of PO 301 cylinder 1 misfire.

Also the exhaust emit a strong gasoline smell when starting. By the way the engine will nit statrt by turning the key , I will need to step on the gas a little to get it to start.

The mechanic also suggested to have the catalystic converter clean.

Please help

Certainly, it could be the CAT or an Oxygen sensor, but the same conditions will occur if you have a vacuum leak or if your MAF sensor has gone bad. Did the mechanic read your diagnostic trouble codes from the OBD-II port? That would be the first thing that should be done. Read your trouble codes and post them back and we'll have more to go on.
