Dash lights out and front end shake

Post by blandis »

Posted about my dash lights in our 98 S70 GLT, Auto a few weeks ago. Ive been working on it hit and miss for a few weeks and cant figure out why they wont work.

All the dash and console lights are out. Economy green light, and AC lights are on (assume they are on different fuse) but all the dash lights quit.

I replaced the headlight switch and dimmer switch. Did not fix it. I checked all the fuses and they look good? Could it be a relay somewhere, or a gground problem?
For my ability, not and EE, i am at a loss.

My other issue is a front end shake. At about 40mph it starts, will settle up over about 65-70.... posted a pic of front axle and couple of you thought it looked bad. Replaced it (again). No help. We put it on the lift and put it in gear, soon as you hit the gas drivers side wheel shake bad. Had it alinged and asked them to look at it and they saw nothing wrong. In the last year have put new links, inner and outer tie rod ends on it along with new axle.

Appreciate the help.

Regarding front end shake, the only causes I've had are imbalanced wheel(s), or a bent wheel.

I am an EE.

Try to jiggle the key the next time it acts up, if things change your ignition switch is failing. It is a cheap and easy fix.

Your front end shaking, based on the speeds where it begins, sounds a lot like a front hub to me. The wheel bearings / hubs are tough to diagnose since the bearings themselves are not serviceable.

Start with the cheap stuff first and get the tires balanced, if a wheel is bent it should be obvious when it is on the balancing machine. The tires likely needed to be rebalanced anyway (that is how I justify that kind of stuff).
