Siren Module Failure - Living Without...

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Siren Module Failure - Living Without...

Post by stevick »

Lately, the old girl ('00 s80 2.9 280k miles) has been having alarm and sunroof problems, surefire symptoms of the siren module. The past week or so has been scorching hot and I could just imagine that battery in the module bubbling and oozing its corrosive juices onto the module board. Today, the sunroof quit completely, so I decided to pull the module (thanks for the instructions here on this forum). I cracked the module and the board was fried, just as I had imagined. I also began imagining that $170+ (what the stealerships get for the module) draining from my wallet.

I buttoned everything back up, figuring I'd order the module online (our local stealership bit the dust). To my surprise, when I started the car -- NO ALARM MESSAGE -- POWER LOCKS WORK FINE -- AND SUNROOF WORKS GREAT TOO! I'm sure I have no alarm, but I do have the working dash flasher to fool would-be thieves. Bottom line, with all else working and no bothersome messages, I think I can live without the alarm for a while (maybe 'til she dies) and find something better to do with the dough.

Just need clarification; are you saying you just buttoned her up without reinstalling the module and thus you just left the connector which would normally be connected to the module hanging lose?
Thks.

Yup, that's exactly what I did. I spoke too soon though... the alarm service message does appear now when I unlock and start the car. It doesn't stay on the message console like my SRS message though. Locks and sunroof do work fine.

That's just a serial port, not a full-blown network connection. It's wired to the module in the rear view mirror assembly (aka UEM -- upper electronics module).

Crito,

If the siren circuit is in series, can it be disconnected in the mirror area instead of in the wheel well?

Thanks in advance
