760 GLE/1987/Are my Valve Gaskets different shape?

I have an oil leak in my car, and had it diagnosed and my valve cover gaskets need to be replaced. I was looking online to purchase them and came across these http://www.europartsdirect.com/epc-items.asp but i am not completely sure if i they are the right thing. It just surprises me that my engine is not completely symmetrical if this is true. Can anyone clarify this for me?

Hi ryanuenchow,

If your engine is the V6 it is not symmetrical. I just replaced the valve cover gaskets on my 760 and they are different. Other than the AC compressor in the way, the job is pretty easy.

FYI I have noticed many overhead cam V engines are asymmetrical. The chain/belt dictates this.

Yes it is a V6! Well thank you for the response, now i will order these and get that fixed right away. Might I ask how long did it take you to replace both of them?

I changed the timing chain cover gaskets at the same time so it's had to estimate just the gaskets. It took me most of a morning, so about 4 hours. If it was just the valve covers I would say 2 to 3. But I include setup and clean up time. Also, i use to be a mechanic so your mileage may vary.

I personally would rate this a pretty easy job for a person with some mechanical aptitude. The only hard part is removing the compressor for the AC and setting it off to the side without disconnecting any hoses. You don't want to touch the hoses.

I have some don't worry but yes I did notice that compressor right there in the way ha ha too bad mine doesn't work... I am unsure if power is getting to it

But just out of curiosity why must you not touch the hoses?
