Hi all-
About 7 months ago my XC 70 2.4 T started idiling extremley erratic. I was advised to take of the throttle body under the inlet manifold and give it a clean. I did this and it worked like a charm. Last week on a long trip it started doing the samething with the idiling. So i decided to remove the throttle body again and give it a good clean again. This time however i decided to replace the steel gasket between the manifold and the throttle body(which i had not done before) and with genuine volvo gasket. I really gave the throttle body a good clean this time and replaced some of the water and air pipes. I put a new gasket between the manifold and the head. when i started the car it is now even worse. A "performance reduced" message comes into the display window and i cannot drive the car. I put my foot flat on the peddle and the car only revs upto 2000rpm. I cannot drive the car and the idiling is really bad now. It sound like it is not running on all cylinders when it idles
Does anyone have any suggestions? i know that i will have to have a diagnostics done but i am just wandering if i am not missing something obvious?
Thank you
"Peformance Reduced" XC 70 2001

Sounds like you may have an ETM problem. The problem is related to contacts on the throttle body. Your cleaning may have exacerbated.

That happened to me 2 years ago. I was driving to an appointment and the car just dropped all its power. I could only get it to 1500 or 2000 rpm's, I slowly drove it to the dealer (expensive, but I was desperate) and they saw that the throttle body was covered in a recall. They replaced it for free. But in the process turbo valve got messed up and it was a year until I figured out that was why the rest of my power went south. The dealership may be able to replace it for free. I don't believe it is tied to the regular factory warranty.
