Newbie 1959 544 owner

Post by DannyF »

Hello-

My family "inherited" a 1959 544 last October. It has less than 90K on it and runs fine (except for having no fuel gauge) and its body is in relatively good shape. Its hard to believe its a 50 year old car!

We don't really want to have to deal with it, however (it makes 5 cars for us!), and will be looking to sell at some point in the near future (once my son learns stick and gets a chance to drive it). Any suggestions on what to ask for it?

Thank you.

Sounds fantastic! Neat old car. I'd do a few things to get a price:

1) look around car sites for the same model http://www.vast.com/cars/used-for-sale- ... n--unknown <- that was the result of a google search for "volvo 544 for sale". Prices vary widely with condition, naturally. Just keep hitting the web and numbers will form in your mind.

2) call Kathy's Northern European Auto Repair and ask. (A couple years ago they had a 544 that started and ran, and they kept it outside and never drove it!) They might have an idea of the value.

3) maybe someone who knows 544s will respond to this thread.

When you do have an idea, post it here in the free Volvo Classifieds.

If you have photos, post them in this thread and you might be able to generate early interest here.

That car is a tank.

I got rear ended by one when I was driving a 1965 Chrysler Newport station wagon. My Chrysler, which was not a small car by any stretch of the imagination, was totaled due to frame damage. The 544 drove away from the scene with front bumper damage.
