I have been noticing increased resistance in the steering wheel of my '02 S60 and I was curious as to whether anybody else had seen this before.
I have not noticed a clear pattern yet, but when going at a good speed (50km/h+) the wheel moves normally over a small range then it encounters noticeably higher resistance to turn it further. This resistance can be overcome and the issue will seem to go away temporarily only to re-occur shortly after.
Could this be associated with the power steering pump beginning to die? I checked the fluid and it did not appear too low. The only other thing I could think of was perhaps a problem somewhere in the direction (control arm perhaps) but the car runs straight and vibration free at high speed.
Any help on this is appreciated.
Thanks!

I haven't heard of this problem on the S60 but it was fairly common on the 960 as the miles got higher, especially when turning right. It was a small defect in the steering rack. It may pay to quiz a dealer and see if it is a known fault on the S60.
