'05 S60 R rubbing/grinding sound

Post by volvonynj »

I performed a test drive on two 2005 S60 R's and get a rubbing/grinding sound from the front end when a make either a tight left or right turn. Both vehicles have 235/45ZR17 Pirelli P-Zero Rosso tires mounted. 1) Is this common with the model? 2) Is this a issue that can be easily resolved? 3) If so, how can this be corrected 4) If not, should I forget about this model?

Thanks in advance for any guidance.

If I remember, this happened when we put on snow tires on our 2004, and occasionally happens with new tires with full tread. It hasn't seemed to hurt anything; there isn't much clearance in the wheel wells.

The solution then was to put some sort of spacer in. I hope that helps. If I was looking at a used R, I would be more concerned with leaks around the differentials, transmission and shocks.

Thanks for the input. Someone else also thought it might be the tires. The vehicle I looking closely at is Volvo certified; so dealer assured me everything mechanical is in order.
