Folks,
I have read the instructions, but what do I do since I have no ignition key to turn?

I have a 2008 V70, which has a silly electronic key that you have to insert into the slot in the dash, and then press the button (and put your foot on the brake) to start.

Does anyone have an idea of a sequence that would work to turn off the service message (which now says, "Maintenance is overdue, you bum.")?

Thx,
Mikey

1. Turn the ignition key to position I.
2. Ensure that the trip display is on T1 and shows some miles (not zero). Press and hold the T1 reset button and wait for the odometer to set to zero.
3. Turn the ignition key to position II, and watch the odometer.
4. When the previously displayed miles reappears, release the trip reset button.
This worked for my 2002 S60 2.4T, thank you very much!

I have followed all the instructions to reset my regular service message. All I get is 045 on the message screen that then goes to the time for regular service message again. I would appreciate any help. I have a 2002 S60.

For my 2001 S60T, the odometer had to be on T2.
It repeatedly did not work on T1.

HOWTO: Reset Service Reminder Indicator on 1998-2009 VolvosTuesday, August 25, 2009

Some 1998 and older models require a OBDII service light reset tool. You can probably have it reset for a marginal cost by a local Volvo dealership or Volvo specialty shop that has one of these tools.

1998 Volvo S80 Models

Turn ignition switch to position I
Press and hold the odometer reset button
Turn ignition switch to position II
After Service light flashes, release odometer reset button
Turn ignition off
Turn ignition back on to confirm reset

1999-2000 Volvo S70 / V70 / C70 Models

Insert key in to ignition but don't turn it yet
Press and Hold the odometer trip counter reset button
Turn ignition switch to "run" position (Position II)
After Service light flashes, release odometer reset button
Turn ignition off
Turn ignition back on to confirm reset

1999-2000 Volvo S80 Models

Insert key and turn ignition switch to position I
Press and hold odometer trip counter reset button
Turn ignition switch to position II
Continue holding odometer trip counter reset button for about 10 seconds
After Service light flashes, release odometer reset button
Should hear "beep-beep" to confirm command accepted

2001 Volvo S80 / V70 / S60 Models (May apply to S40/V40 also)

The service reminder indicator lamp illuminates for 120 seconds when the ignition is first switched on.
Insert key and turn Ignition Switch to position I
Press and hold in the reset button for the trip odometer
Turn the Ignition switch to position II (within 5 seconds)
The service reminder indicator starts flashing when the reset button for the trip odometer has been pressed for 10 seconds
Release the reset button for the trip odometer within 5 seconds. The instrument gives an audible signal when resetting has succeeded.
If the trip meter reset button is not released within 5 seconds the indicator is not reset, but the indicator will stop flashing.

2002-2007 All Volvo Models

The service reminder indicator lamp illuminates for 120 seconds when the ignition is first switched on
Insert key and turn Ignition Switch to position I
Press and hold in the reset button for the trip odometer
Turn the Ignition switch to position II (within 2 seconds)
Hold the reset button for the trip meter pressed in until the original trip counter value blinks and is redisplayed
(For all vehicles 2003- a general yellow lamp will light when the reset button must be released.)
Release the reset button for the trip odometer within 4 seconds. The instrument gives an audible signal when resetting has succeeded
If the trip meter is already reset the reset button should be held in for a minimum of 10 seconds and a maximum of 14 seconds.
If the reset button for the trip odometer is not released within 4 seconds, the service reminder indicator (SRI) is not reset.

2008-2009 Volvos with starter push button on dashboard

The trip odometer must have at least 0.1 mile on it or the light will not reset.
Get in vehicle and do not push down on the brake pedal
Put the key in the slot and push the starter button once
Press and hold down the odometer reset button
While doing this, push the starter button again and hold for 2 seconds
Keep the odometer reset button held in and watch the instrument cluster for the general warning indicator (I) to illuminate. When this happens, release the button.
Turn the vehicle off then back on and verify the message is now out.

This worked!

As everyone seems to notice, the timing is tricky - I was really frustrated. My problem was that I wasn't waiting long enough. I did as posted here : Hold the reset button, then turn to position 2 directly. Counted to 10 slowly. Light blinked. Released and turned key off.
