2001 S80 T6 Brake Pedal position Switch?

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

2001 S80 T6 Brake Pedal position Switch?

Post by Steam_Rocket »

My girlfriend has a 2001 S80 T6 with 100k on it. Recently she began having problems getting the car to shift out of park. She had to depress the brake pedal repeatedly and it often took 5 minutes or longer to get the car to shift out of park. I had the same issue when drove it. I determined that the cause was the brake shift interlock. I removed the center console and the shifter and examined the interlock relay (solenoid?). It was working fine... I was able to remove power by pulling the wires off it and it would retract the locking pin just the way it was supposed to. Disconnecting it allowed the car to be driven but didn't really fix the problem.

I was following her in my car yesterday and I noticed her brake lights were working intermittantly. All three lights would either work or not work. There is no error code on the display. This leads me to believe that the source of all this is a lazy brake Pedal position sensor. Does this sound reasonable, and does anyone out there know how simple it is to replace this? My understanding is it is located on the brake vacuum boost unit.

Thank for your help.
