S40 2000 volvo 1.9 Acceleration trouble

I have a 2000 S40 Volvo with about 140,000 miles on it. The check engine light is ON and the car drives perfect except for one problem. Any time that I accelrate to quickly my volvo feels like it isn't firing or changing gears properly. You can hear the engine stall or hang before it changes gears and it is very slow in changing. I have a brand new oil change, fuel system cleaner, and just took it on a road trip for a few days and was fine except for that one problem. When I drop my automatic shift into low gear the car has high revs but my arrow for "wet mode" shows up on my warning lights. I have only done this to help with more additional info to help diagnose the isssue. Any advice or help would greatly be appreciated! Thank you very much!

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.

The check engine light means that fault codes have been stored in the On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) unit. You need to have the codes read to ascertain the problem. Apparently Autozone and other similar outlets will do this for you free of charge.

Obtain the codes and then post back for more help.

The driveability problem you are having sounds as though the car is in limp home mode. This means gear ratios and changes are restricted.
