New Rule

Post by Ozark Lee »

Ok,

A bunch of people on this board go way out of their way to try to help other folks but I have noticed that, at the end of the day, there is very little feedback as to whether or not any of the suggestions worked. What works and, perhaps more important, what does not work for specific problems is vital data. Since the posting on threads without a clear resolution ceases I would assume that:

1) One of the suggestions worked and the problem was solved.

or

2) None of the suggestions worked and a quick $600 swipe of the credit card at XYZ Volvo fixed the problem.

or

3) The car is now listed on eBay for parts.

Feedback is very important to help us all, please let us know what did or did not work. If you see Miller beer advertisements I propose it as a new "Man Law."

...Lee

PS. When I owned an Audi 5000 I proposed to Audi that they put a factory option of a credit card reader into the dash where I could swipe a Visa card to credit Hans and Frans US $600.00 and the car would run again. I haven't seen that option yet.

Good suggestion, Lee. It would be nice to know if the help offered actually worked for people.

Detailed explanations of problems and solutions (if any) are even more welcome here and it makes things a lot easier for all of us.

Hi Ozark Lee,

If it is nothing else, it is just plain courtesy to respond when someone gives of their valueable time to assist others requesting assistance with a particular problem.

Also, some people offer suggestions they think are worth trying, but are uncertain if it is a solution to the problem.

I believe these people appreciate feedback to ascertain if their diagnosis was correct or otherwise.

By the way, my glovebox lid still works beautifully.
There are only two types of car owners - those who own Volvos and those who wish they did.

New users, please do as Lee asks and get back to us. It is a courtesy we very much appreciate, and it adds to the knowledge here when a "fix loop" is completed.

Excellent suggestion Lee. It would help people find answers to there questions because they will actually know that the suggestion fixed the issue. I notice that there are a lot of redundant questions on here and other forums because no one ever tells anyone if the suggestions fixed the issue.

I agree. Why take the time to post a reply if you get no response. Closure is what we want. Being left hanging is no fun. IATN, for example, lets you know whats up with the posting. Some tweaking of the forum layout may be the real answer, such as a "didn't work" button or a "success" button. Make it simple and easy and the masses may respond.

I am sure Matthew could work this in somehow but I wouldn't like to suggest it as it would be a complete waste of his time.

Most of my working life was spent serving the community and I know from first hand experience "the masses" aren't interested in closure. They want an answer to their problem and as far as they are concerned, that is the end of the matter. In the UK we have a saying, "I'm alright, Jack. Pull the ladder up". That attitude, unfortunately, is becoming the norm globally.

If they can't be bothered to type in a simple thank you then you can bet your sweet life they won't come back and tick a box.

That's it, my rant is over. I will end by saying that lots of members do spend a great deal of time researching problems for others and it is great to see an acknowledgement. Those who do say thank you go to the top of my list when future questions arise.
