Hi,
I have two tasks to take care of, ASAP. One is to flush the radiator and the other is to flush the transmission. I have had no problems except an occasional slip between 1-2. I need to know if there is a specific type of coolant to use, and whether or not there is a transmission filter. I'm getting conflicting opinions. I live in eastern Idaho, and the nearest dealer is 200 miles away. Thanks in advance.

I am assuming you have an AW55 (5 speed automatic w/o AWD) transmission.
The transmission does not have a replacable filter. (there is a permanent internal screen that is only replaced during a rebuild). Be sure to use the correct transmission fluid.
Volvo requires a HOAT coolant. (Hybrid organic acid technology). Do not use the Prestone 50/150 as it is an OAT and handles high heat and cavitaton slightly worse than a HOAT. It is most important to use proper water with the antifreeze. You can use high quality distilled water or water made especially for radiators (PEAK sells radiator water through Pep Boys). Demineralized , distilled or mineral free water will allow the best heat transfer and system longevity.
Mix at a 50/50 ratio unless you routinely see below -34 deree F temps.
Best to spend the extra 10 bucks and have the Volvo coolant. If not BMW coolant is very similar.
