XC70 problems - what should you look for when shopping?

You are right about the driveshaft problems. I have a '98 XC that is making a grinding noise on left hand turns. The halfshaft was replaced, but that didn't do it. The dealer says the entire driveshaft must be replaced, which will cost about $ 1200. Ouch !!!! With 112,000 miles on my Volvo, I will probably do it, so I can get another 30,000 or more miles out of it...I just hope this is my last major repair. How about transmission problems???
