Hi everyone, i hope someone can help me out.
I´ve been told by a volvo dealer after they checked my ( 52000miles)xc70 2004 2.5T car that the on board computer is faulty and it should be replaced. I took the car because I had the check engine light on and the ABS with the (i) red light on at the same time. i couldn´t really notice any diference thou in the breaking system, performace was still the same. Another thing that happened is that the odomoter stopped suddendly so i can´t check the mileage counting( now i have to miracle calculate the oil change) thou the velocimeter works fine.
my question is basically where can i find spare parts ( new ones ) other from volvo dealers regarding the on board computer, or at least can someone give me an idea of the cost of it? I live in Ecuador ( south america) where volvo spare parts cost maybe double than in other countries. so i want to now the cost to see if i can maybe bought it on the states where i can get a better deal!!
thanks to all,
Diego Toscano

If by on board computer, you are refering to the central electronic modual or "cem", that seems to be a more common and recurring issue with some models possibly mostly 2004 models? My xc70 has this failure only after longer 5-7 hours of driving and has never occured otherwise. Most of the time there is no indication of any problem. Mine occurs suddenly and starts with a quick driveline bump or thud felt in the steering and wheels with the interior lights illuminating and the message that the left rear door is open...which it is not. This happens usually 3 times and the cem basically shuts off and the car continues to drive in "limp mode". Most of the time if you stop and turn the car off and back on the cem comes back on and several codes would have been set due to the cem shutting off. One of those codes is the SRS system lost power and a few others, but they have to do with the cem havind shut off, not the original problem. Some others are looking for the answer to this on-line and have had the cem or other electrical system parts replaced with varying results (alternator and regulator) I have not yet found an answer, but people need to start applying lots of pressure to volvo...this seems to be becoming a bigger problem??
