S40- mildew smell when fan is on. ????

2001 S40- smells like mildew when you put the A/C on. Is there a cabin filter? Would this do it? Any other ideas? And, how would I fix whatever idea you have (ie: How do you get to the cabin filter?).

Yes there is a cabin filter and if it hasn't been replaced it can cause a smell.

This is the VADIS instruction for its replacement:
