Useful Turbo info.....and more questions

Post by jakub72 »

During my exhaustive Turbo catch up, learn me real good session; I found this http://www.wothrline.com/Cars_engine/HW ... harger.htm
...I did a search on the site and did not see it here.

The question part....

This is my first Turbo'd vehicle and I am sold. I spent hours and much dollars on my NA MarkVIII with very good sucess. This turbo cra* is driving me nuts! I get fuel/air delivery and driveline jazz just fine....but this dump valve/BOV is keeping me up at nights.

Here is my plan: 98 V70 T-5....stock T-16 which will be upgraded to a T-18 with a 3" down pipe and exhaust with a Tune from BSR here in Sweden. Good for 310hp 315ft/lb give or take with the original T-16...My understanding is that the dump valve and BOV are both attached to the turbo housing and is it worth while to use aftermarket dump valves? How about the BOV? And what kind of plumbing will I have to do? Gains? Thanks all......

Anybody got some pictures of correctly plumbed Volvos? S/V70

You can find some nice pictures on VolvoSpeed of Volvos with aftermarket piping setups. There is a thread in the performance section talking about this right now.

As for a BOV, the stock CBV is fine. The BOV is more for affect I think.

Don't do the blowoff valve unless you just have to have that racer "whoosh" every time you shift under boost. It dumps already measured air and throws the fuel mixture too rich, which can mess up your catalytic converter and cause you to fail a smog test.
