960 sedan 1997 65000mi check engine light on and runs rough

Post by jgb »

This is my sons car and as he is driving he called to say check engine light on and car running rough. He pulled into a parking lot and waited for me. When I got there noticed engine running rough like is not running on all cylinders. I took it to autozone to have them try to pull code. they gave me a misfire on # 3 cylinder. I was going to pull coil and have it checked. Any other suggestions?check engine

That sounds like a good place to start...coil, plug itself, wires, dist cap, etc. espeically if it's only on that cylinder. I know nothing about 960's, but there should only be one ignition coil for all the cylinders, at least until it became the S90.

Not so. It has 6 individual coils.

You re correct. There are 6 coils and number 3 was not firing. I replaced it and the car runs great now. I just need to figure out how to get the check engine light out.

Sorry about that! That's why I stick to the 850 section haha. Just drop by an auto parts store and they should let you use a code reader that you can use to clear the codes. Or you can disconnect the battery for about 10 minutes. Just make sure you have your radio code.
