Low Oil Level Light on My 850

Post by jakeizchillin »

The low oil level light has been turning on every so often on my 93 850 GLT for the past month. However, the oil level is always fine when I check it. I am wondering what makes the light turn on? Is it just something in the pan measuring the level or is it reading the actual oil pressure. If its the former I'm not going to worry about it. Any help on this would be appreciated.

As I recall the '93 actually had a oil level indicator. They ditched it after that and went with just an oil pressure indicator. The sad thing about that decision was that the oil pressure indicator is very close to a new engine indicator.

The sender is on the front face of the block just above the sump and it just may be a bad sender. I actually think a replacement can be had aftermarket at most auto parts stores. None of my cars has one so I can't give you any real hands on guidance but from what I have seen on VADIS it looks like you can get to it from below the car without removing the intake manifold.

Thanks for confirming that Lee. I can now place it last on my list of things to do on this car.
