'96 850 tranny worries

Post by rreddick87 »

New to the board, yadda yadda yadda

As the ol mighty '96 850 ticked over 100k this week, the tranny started to worry me the more i thought of it.

When coasting down a hill and gaining speed at +/-30mph it will upshift as expected but the shift is loud and seems to jerk the car forward. Alone, his is unnerving and with other gearheads in the car it is embarassing. Ive noticed this over the past 10k but my beaten path rarely contains such a speed/coast (coasting...hahaha.....thatll be the day )combo. As well, upshifts under full accel seem not to snap my neck as much (ie softer shifts).

All other upshifts/downshifts in various conditions seem to be normal.

Questions: the dealer is doing 100k service next week, does this include transmission service? is this behavior a tale tell sign that the tranny may blow soon?

Any help is appreciated, Ryan
