Key fob

Post by mrsshaw »

Hi

We have a broken key fob for a V70 (51 plate)

Anyone know if it can be fixed? Or how to best go about getting a new one?

Thanks

Leah

You can try taking it to a dealer to get it repaired, but they will probably just tell you to buy a new one. Some peole have purchased fobs on Ebay, however, you will have to go to a Volvo dealer so that the car can be programmed to recognize your new fob. Dealers don't like to do this with fobs they haven't sold. I know at least one person who got his Ebay fob programmed by taking it in to the dealer and just saying "it stopped working" without telling them that it was an Ebay fob.

Ebay remotes cannot be programmed, at least for this year and model. There is no special way to do it, or way to word it at the dealer. Each new fob or remote comes with an 8 digit number that is required in order to program through VIDA.

Is it just the case? If so, why not get one from ebay and swap the insides out. This is what I did on an older car. If not, get ready to pay big $$$ at the dealer. I think it was around $300+ when I got a key and fob made at the dealer. He charged his hourly labor plus a program fee.
Good Luck
