89 240 GL (hot & cold air suction or just cold air suction?)

89 240 GL wagon
Automatic
Non Turbo
Orlando, Florida

I recently met a Volvo certified mechanic that works from his home, also here in central Florida.

He looked at my car and said it looked pretty good under the hod and made some suggestions from his quick observation.

Oil Filter... Said not to use bosch... Use MANN
I have only used Bosch but I am willing to move to something beter if it means keeping my car living longer and healthier.

Crank Position Sensor... Wire seems to be exposed so I need to replace... No problem.

Air intake... This is the one I am concerned about... He said I should eliminate all together the hose from the exhaust manifild to the air intake/air filter box and just have the car run on cold air.

This has been on the car since I bought it back in 2004

I have read in the 850 forum about manipulating the air box/thermostat door to remain in the (cold air open position) for several reasons... Better gas mileage and for better overall performance.

Is this the case for cars located in hotter cliemates like mine here in Florida?

If so... and I should elimnate that hose... Do I need to cap the air box opening that that hose would go to?

Thanks
Eric
