89 245 (Occasional clunk sound) from rear of car

Post by Volvo_240_Atari_2600 »

Orlando, Florida
238k
Non turbo
240 GL wagon

Every now and then I get a "clunk" sound from the rear of my car especially when I make a left turn... Usually when the turn is more of a sharp turn.

Sometimes happens when I run the car in reverse coming ou of a parking stall.

The clunk sound almost sounds as if something was loose inder the car (shock absorber) maybe banging against the inner wheel fender or the floor.

Nothing I can visibly see.
Anything I should be looking for?
Bad bushings maybe?

I'm almost afraid to be driving one day and my whole rear axle be left behind.

Any thoughts?
Thank you in advance

Eric

You won't loose the rear axle but I would take a look at your mounts. More then likely they are worn and allowing the rear axle to move around a little bit.

I was in your site but was not sure what the correct mounts or bushings that you are refering to.

Please send me a link from your site displaying the correct mount/bushings and how many I would need.

Will take a peek some time today.

Thanks
Eric
